Never Again

When I was making this blanket, I started crocheting little colourful squares to use up bits and pieces of yarn that were left over. I began to accumulate a lot of squares. And a lot more. And even more.

So I started to sew them together. And at some point, I had a larg-ish blanket that needed to either be made smaller and turned into a baby blanket, or made larger and turned into an adult-sized blanket. Why take the easy way out, you ask? Exactly - just make more squares.

When it was finally finished, I was happy to swap it for ... a rocking chair. The giver of the rocking chair wanted to buy it off me, but how do you put a price on a blanket made up of over a hundred little squares, each with five colour changes, all of that end-weaving and sewing? In monetary terms, you just can't. But a rocking chair is a fair deal.

My assistant.
"What's the name of this pattern?" a non-crafting friend asks.
"Never again," I say. "It's called 'Never Again'. Or just plain old granny squares, if you prefer."

It's a gorgeous blanket and I'm not sure I could have parted with it.

Mind you, a rocking chair sounds like a good exchange!

Beautiful colours, and I love the different colours in each square. Well done for completing it, because although I could probably make one or two the same size with all my end pieces, I would NEVER have the patience to stick with it! It looks great, and I love the little blonde head too ;)

Oh thank you thank you thank you ! I recently purchased some yarn and planned to make a blanket, but didn't quite know how to organise the colours and seeing your blanket lighted a lightbulb in my head ! Nice swap indeed, now you can make a lap blanket to go with the rocking chair :-)

so bright and gorgeous. SO GORGEOUS. I love the pic also of your village on christmas - to an american, it looks like the most beautiful, old, cobblestoned village and I really wish I were there.

Maybe I could even help peel the turnips.

Wonderful name! I am working on an a afghan for my Dad's 84th birthday and it's a Carolyn Christmas "Circle Dance" (her latest CAL), or something to that effect. anyway it comprises of lot's and lot's of squares (circles in squares) in assorted sizes of anywhere 12" to 2". I am so afraid I might feel overwhelmed by the pile that I will be finishing off the squares and sewing them together in stages, so I will not get overwhelmed. I can not imagine how many squares you had to deal with! I love your colors!

Beautiful blanket.

Have you seen this "joining-as-you-go" tutorial on Attic 24...http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/joining-asyougo-sqaures.html
I now use this method and it saves all that dreaded sewing; means I don't have so many unfinished crochet projects. I just need a tutorial to join as I go for all the knitting [I still have piles of work to sew into garments... I hate it].

Another attempt to send my comment...Blogger is playing up tonight.

Beautiful Blanket.

I hate sewing up too. But now I have looked at a joining-as-you-go tutorial on Attic 24 [http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/joining-asyougo-sqaures.html] I no longer have unfinished crochet projects.

Now I need to find a sewing alternative for com[letting my knitted garments; I have pile of unfinished knitting.
