Yolanda's Scrapbuster
This is a true scrapbuster.
Nooooo! you shriek. The harmony, the colour palette, the meticulous planning - how could it possibly be a scrapbuster?
Yes, it is. Honest. I just bought one single skein and the rest were fished out of my stash. I'd love to say that it made a significant bite into my bag(s) of yarn, but ...
... it didn't. I could make another - even wilder - blanket without leaving the living room. Let's change the subject.
This blanket will probably go to a colleague's daughter, who loved my blankets and asked for a Kuscheldecke (a cuddly blanket). She likes bright colours. (Of course, she might change her mind when she sees this.) Washed and dried, it'll be packed up and passed on, so I can move to the next project without a guilty conscience.
Love it!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous. It has certainly brightened my day. Your colleague's daughter is one lucky lass.
ReplyDeleteMan, I still need to finish mine. I haven't made it past the first panel >.>
ReplyDeleteBlame it on Christmas. That's what I'm doing =D. So what if it's already a month after and I haven't touched it o_____o;
Wow that is amazing no its stunning i love the colours the shape of the squares and the whole way you have sewn them together with no gaps the design is gorgeous. Who ever recieves that will truely love it. dee x
ReplyDeleteFantastic - it is lovely. She will love it.
ReplyDeleteBTW...the church in Whitley Bay is ST.PAULS....I am telling you, the whole family felt FAMOUS getting a mention on your blog....
Would have said earlier only I was too crabby and hot, but thank you!
Love it, so cheerful!
ReplyDeleteIt is eye poppingly amazing. Love it!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous and definitely a cuddly blanket.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's just fabulous! Lucky girl.
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful, I'm sure she'll love it and treasure it.
ReplyDeleteWhere are my sunglasses! Whew! This is one of the cheeriest, coolest blankets I've seen in a while. I must say that you DO have a talent for combining colors, Gingerbread Lady. Positively great, this blanket is!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! I love scrappy blankets.
ReplyDeleteSo, People on here like your blankets etc. But do you? You never seem to keep anything at all. Is that because you like doing it and thinking about projects but don't like looking at it? You do more than the average person as you are very fast, but is it banned from your house or something?
ReplyDeleteOr are you just very unselfish? I keep all my stuff as I love it. Which makes me a very selfish crocheter I know.
Heather .. Good question! This blanket was made for this little girl, so I knew it wasn't going to stay with me. Otherwise, I suppose you could say that I like the process as much as, or more than, the product. I crochet because I like the actual crocheting and picking out the colours and working out how it fits together. But once it's done, I can usually give it away without great regret... Because the next project is usually tempting me already :-)

Love it! And I wish I had your stash, because it appears to be bottomless, beautiful, bright.
ReplyDeleteI love it ! Isn't it crazy how much yarn we accumulate?
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely beautiful!!!! I want to make one of these for my guest room. But I have a silly question...is it okay to use different brands of yarn in the same blanket? I am assuming that I would just need to make sure the weight of the yarn was the same. {okay okay...you can stop laughing now...i'm a newbie...sheesh...lol}
ReplyDeletePam
Hello Pam!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter, as long as you use the same kind of yarn - and the same weight. So you can use any brand of, say, acrylic in DK weight. One important reason for this is that different yarn types (e.g. wool and acrylic) must be washed at different temperatures, so it's best to stay with the same type of yarn ... but it doesn't matter which manufacturer they're from!
